HCFA Viz User's Manual
- Command Summary
- from the command line, use the -help flag to display a
summary of command line switches
- once the program starts, type "?" in the window to print a
summary of mouse/key commands to the shell window
- Data Frames
- frame 1 data points are rendered in green, and the clusters are
in magenta, frame 2 points are cyan, and the clusters are yellow
- either the first frame, the second frame, or both frames can be
displayed from Menu->Render->Data->Frames
- select the dimension of the data to lay out along the x, y, or z
axis with Menu->Data->Frame1 Axes
- the legend shows which dimensions are being mapped to the 3
viewing axes (toggle the legend on/off with
Menu->Options->Legend
- Moving the Viewpoint
- click and drag the left mouse button to rotate the
data left/right andup/down
- click and drag the middle mouse button vertically to move the
viewpoint in/out of the data
- to center the view on the "transform" (the red octahedron), use
Menu->Render->General->Center Transform, when the transform
moves, the view will always center on it
- to zoom on the current node in frame 1 use
Menu->Transform->Zoom->Frame 1 Current, similarly for frame 2
and the current clusters
- the transform can be toggled to always zoom to the current point
(or cluster) with Menu->Transform->Zoom->Auto-Zoom
- Selecting Items
- the current selected data point is marked with a red
rectangle around the point, and a small red dot inside the point, all
other selected points are marked with a surrounding red rectangle only
- frame 1: hold down SHIFT and:
- left mouse: select single data point
- middle mouse: select cluster point
- left and middle: click and drag for selection rectangle
- frame 2: hold down CTRL and:
- same commands as for frame 1
- use Menu->Data->Select->Enter Data Point... to type in a
single data point index to display
- use Menu->Data->Select->Enter Cluster... to type in a
single cluster index to display
- to select the cluster associated with a data point and
vice-versa, use Menu->Data->Select->Data From Cluster 1 etc...
- Changing Transparency Level
- increase/decrease the clipping threshold for the alpha value with
the "0" and ")" keys (program will run much faster if
the clip value is increased even slightly)
- use Menu->Render->General->Alpha->Gamma to set the gamma
correction on the transparency
- use Menu->Render->General->Alpha->Weighted Gamma to set
the gamma correction on the transparency, which is also weighted by
the alpha value for each frame
- use "1" and "!" keys to increase/decrease the alpha for frame 1
- use "2" and "@" keys to increase/decrease the alpha for frame 2
- by default, frame1alpha and frame2alpha are related so that
frame1alpha+frame2alpha = 1. you can turn this relationship
off with Menu->Render->Data->Blend->Independent, and back on
with Menu->Render->Data->Blend->Clamp Frames
- toggle pdf based transparency with Menu->Render->Data->(No)
Alpha PDF
- by default, selections are drawn fully opaque, toggle
transparency for them on/off with Menu->Render->Data->Transparent
Selections
- Magnification
- the "s" and "d" keys smoothly interpolate between the undistorted
(source) and magnified (destination) views of the data, and override
all other magnification settings
- all magnification is relative to the transform, which is
represented by the red octahedron in the display
- use "j" and "l" to decrease/increase the degree of magnification
- you can restrict the magnification to a limited domain with
Menu->Transform->Domain->Rectangular, then use the {J,L},
{K,I} and {U,O} keys to decrease/increase the size of the domain along
the x, y and z axes. by default, the domain is set to be infinite
- ALT and the left mouse button can be used to
move the transform along the current axis (set the current axis by
hitting the "x" "y" or "z" keys)
- you can mark a place in the display by using
Menu->Transform->Push which will leave a blue transform at
the current location, and create a new red transform for you to move
around.
- select an old transform with either Menu->Transform->Pop
(which will select the most recent transform) or with
ALT and a middle mouse click on the desired transform
- the effect of transforms can be combined with
Menu->Transform->Combination->Scaled Average. by default only
the top transform on the stack affects the magnification
