Burrow server paca and Sharkestra server whale to be retired

The old burrow server, paca.cs.indiana.edu, and sharkestra server, whale.cs.indiana.edu, are being retired and services previously hosted on these sytems are being turned off. This will be largely transparent to most CS users but it may require changes for some users. Below are the services that may have been in use previously:

  • SSH/login Access - If you were previously using either paca or whale for login access via SSH then you should now be using the host burrow.cs.indiana.edu instead of paca.cs.indiana.edu and sharks.cs.indiana.edu instead of whale.cs.indiana.edu.

  • Samba/SMB Access - If you were using paca or whale as your SMB server for access to your CS home directory or printers you will need to migrate to the new CS Samba servers. Please see the corresponding FAQ entries for more information on how to Access Your Home Directory, Print From Windows, and Print From a Mac.

  • NFS Access - If you have any references to your CS home directory using a path like /nfs/paca/... or /nfs/whale/... then this will no longer work. You should just use /u/username instead.
